One of the most iconic cars ever produced, Jaguar’s E type, is now available at Goldstar Automotive Sales. A Series 2, this Open Two-Seater (usually called a convertible these days) features a 4.2 litre straight six XK engine, 4 speed manual transmission and is painted in Carmen Red to make it faster!

When introduced in March 1961 the E type caused a motoring sensation, not only because of its shape but low price compared to other “exotic” cars. Refinement caused it to morph into the Series 1.5, then Series 2 in 1968. These changes were mainly confined to the bonnet, brakes, bumper bars and seats/interior.

Compared to an early Series 1 the engine was now 4.2 litres, providing effortless power for overtaking and cruising. The seating position is much better with lower reclining seats and headrests, whilst the aluminium transmission tunnel trim has been replaced by vinyl to reduce annoying glare. This Carmen Red / Black interior is a classic combination which works well with the chrome wire wheels. Our example has had little use in the last 20 years, so as such will require “fettling” to get back into concours condition, or you can leave it as it is. E types have proved to be one of the best investments of all classic cars.
